Laboratory of Statistics  Science

Laboratory of Statistics and Computing Science, Institute of Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Science, was founded in Jan. 1997. Statistical theories and methods include high dimensional data analysis, projection pursuit research, overall reliability evaluation of complex systems, theories and applied research of sampling, and research on statistical reference such as admissibility, robustness and asymtotic efficiency. Using these statistical theories and methods, many practical problems in national defence and national economy have been successfully solved . During the ninth five-year plan of the nation, our lab takes charge the key item of cibceot research of Committee of Science and Engineering, DOD, called Integrated Approach for Small-sample Systems Reliability, which is sponsored by researchist Guo-ying Li.

The research group leaded by Academician Qun Lin has gained some important achievments in the aspects of finite-element algorithms. They are successfully applied to dam construction, continuous cast steel, petroleum pool simulation and design for nuclear power station. The research findings, finite element extropolation was awarded first prize for Achievements in Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989.
