Abstract:
There is an increasing conflict between the growing demand on energy and the pressure on the environment in smart cities, both in developed countries such as the United States and the developing countries such as China. A good coordination between the supply and the demand on energy relies on accurate estimation. Renewable energy such as wind power and solar power provides flexibilities as well as difficulties to balance the gap between the supply and demand on energy in cities. Fusing the information from the large number of weather stations as well as personal devices may significantly improve the accuracy of wind power and solar power generation forecasting in various spatial and temporal scales. Fusing the information from cars and smart phones may significantly improve the accuracy of demand forecasting. Putting together, the better estimation on supply and demand will save energy and improve the comfort satisfaction of occupants in the same time. In this talk we will discuss the opportunities and challenges in this area.
